Get to know your speakers (Part 1 of 3)

D-day to one of the most exciting events of the year, TEDxParklands is just around the corner!We sat with our speakers in a bid to get to know them better -their aspirations, their favourite things and so much more! Here’s part 1 of this 3-part series. Be sure to catch the rest of our speaker’s thoughts and aspirations in the next blog!

What inspires you to live the life you live?

Time. I don’t know how much of it I have left in the world and I certainly know I don’t have room for regrets when I get to the end. I live by the concept of “if it is to be done, it has to be done now.”

What’s your favourite piece of content?

The book “To Kill A Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee. The concept of innocence and the duty to preserve it rings so true in various elements of life. I always have a copy to keep reading my favourite parts.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

The uncertainty. It forces me to live by faith.

What inspires you to live the life you live?

To be a good and faithful steward of the time and resources God has graciously given to me.

What’s your favorite piece of content?

A book called “Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper. I read it in Campus and it gave me a clearer picture of how I can easily waste the days of my life.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

Seeing so many gaps, inequalities, pain and hurt and feeling very limited to help the situation.

What inspires you to live the life you live?

It is not who you are, it is about who you are becoming!

What’s your favorite piece of content?

The Alchemist really speaks to me.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

It is dynamic; the constant change of technology and needs keep me constantly learning.  

What inspires you to live the life you live?

I get my inspiration from various things but mostly I would say God, my love for good things and fashion.

What’s your favorite piece of content?

I watch a lot of documentaries on YouTube, and Netflix and also read a lot of fashion content from Business of fashion, Vogue, Harper Bazaar just to mention a few publications.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

I always run out of time. I am constantly working on a tight deadline and have to continuously create.

What inspires you to live the life you live?

The hope that my grandchildren will grow up to experience a world that is as green as this one I have grown up in or even better.

What’s your favorite piece of content?

Podcasts for sure. With podcasts, you’re free to go about your day and still gain knowledge in a less intensive way. My favourite are Impact Theory, Sustainable Mind, Ted Radio Hour, Stanford Innovation Lab, Social Entrepreneur and Forbes Mentoring Moments.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

Understanding that even with great urgency, human dignity and compassion is vital because human interaction with the environment is the essence of environmental conservation and protection.
